Explore its other-worldly landscapes
The whole country of Iceland is mostly made up of volcanic rock, which explains why its make up is very unique, and almost fairy tale-like, to a certain extend. Depending on which part of Iceland you’re in, whether it be inland with exceptional views of its scenery, its vast expanses of land, mountain ranges and volcanoes, or the views of the coast and glaciers, you’d be in for a treat wherever you go.
Go up and close with glaciers
As suggested by the country’s name itself, one of the main attractions of Iceland is its glaciers. In fact, eleven percent of the whole country is made up of glaciers, with there being over 269 named glaciers in total! You can appreciate these glaciers from afar, but for the more adventurous types, you can also go on an expedition inside the galciers itself!
Relax in the Blue Lagoon
Easily one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland, the Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa, which people flock to on the regular, to relax and to reap its many benefits. It’s famously known for its hot and milky blue water, which is due to its high silica content, as well as its salt and algae. The water temperature of its pools are a warm 37-39 degrees Celsius, and is said to be really good for our skin and health.
Get blown away by giant waterfalls
Personally, one of the most humbling experiences you’d have a chance to be a part of is getting to see Iceland’s waterfalls up close. Seeing how strong and massive these waterfalls are, are awe-inspiring, to say the least. And will definitely put into perspective how small each of us are in this world. But that’s not to take anything away from its beauty. As enormous as they are, they are still one of the most beautiful sights to see for yourself.
Witness the magical Aurora Borealis
This may very well be on most everybody’s bucket lists. Getting to see the mystically dazzling dance of the northern lights is something that each person must get to see in his/her lifetime. As beautiful as they may look online, no amount of pictures and videos do justice to how spectacular the Aurora Borealis truly is. It may take some time and patience to get to see it, as its occurrence isn’t guaranteed, but once you do catch it, needless to say, it will all be worth it!
